Frequently asked questions
How it works, integration, data and deployment: answers to help you move forward.
How it works
What is Perception for?
Perception analyses video streams to detect situations, count crossings and support post-incident searches. The functions used depend on your objectives and the applicable rules.
Do I need to replace my cameras?
Not necessarily. The assessment checks stream access, quality and suitability for the scenarios; the brand alone is not enough to decide.
Does every detection trigger an alert?
No. Configured areas, schedules, thresholds and rules determine which events are presented to the operator.
How can reliability be assessed?
Define a pilot using representative footage, labelled events and agreed criteria. Review useful alerts, false positives and missed events.
Compatibility
Does ONVIF mean everything is compatible?
No. Check the model, its ONVIF profile, accessible stream and video settings. The integration then needs testing in your environment.
Can I keep my VMS?
That is a goal of the integration assessment. Available functions vary with the software, version and selected connector.
Can thermal cameras be used?
They can be part of a project. The stream, scene and scenario need assessment; results from visible-light cameras do not automatically transfer to thermal cameras.
What about on-board use with NVIDIA Jetson?
Videtics works on on-board deployments using NVIDIA Jetson. Hardware, power, environmental conditions and required analytics determine the sizing.
Data and GDPR
Do images have to leave the site?
A local architecture can analyse streams on premises. The data-flow matrix should specify data sent to other systems, remote access and permissions.
Does Perception identify people?
Videtics does not offer facial recognition in Perception. Detecting a human figure or searching an object category is not the same as establishing a person’s identity.
Does blurring make all data anonymous?
Not on its own. Context, other available information and access to footage before blurring also need assessment.
Who decides retention periods?
The organisation responsible for processing defines them according to the purposes and applicable rules. The technical configuration should reflect these decisions.
Pricing and deployment
How is the budget determined?
The assessment separates software, server, integration, training and maintenance costs. Streams, analytics and site constraints are assessed together.
How many cameras can one server analyse?
There is no single figure for every configuration. Resolution, analysis frame rate, enabled models and hardware affect actual capacity.
Can we start with one site?
Yes, a project can be scoped around a pilot site. Define what needs to be demonstrated and the conditions for any expansion.
What timeline should we expect?
It depends on stream access, integration work and internal processes. A realistic schedule follows an assessment of the technical environment and project.
Videtics and Technis
Is Videtics part of Technis?
Yes. Videtics joined Technis in 2025, bringing video analytics expertise to the group’s physical-space measurement solutions.
Where is Perception developed?
Videtics develops its technology in Sophia Antipolis, France. This expertise is part of the European Technis group.
How does Technis Spaces work with video?
Technis Spaces brings camera indicators together with data from other sensors. Available data and dashboards are defined during the integration assessment.
How can we become a partner?
Tell us about your business, coverage and the systems you integrate. Support and cooperation arrangements will be defined with the partner team.
Usage framework
Does an authorised camera permit any analytics?
Image capture and the proposed analytics need separate assessment. The purpose, location, affected people and applicable rules should be documented.
Should the DPO be involved from the start?
This helps include data protection in the initial scoping. Purpose, necessity and documentation should be addressed before deployment.
Can the same rules be used in every country?
No. National rules and the usage context need local assessment. A translated page is not legal approval for another jurisdiction.
Can a technical tool confirm a project’s legality?
No. The compatibility checker covers interfaces and streams. The usage framework needs assessment with the relevant people in your organisation.
