A door opens. Some passengers board; others get off. For a transport operator, those few seconds reveal something essential about the network.

How many people are on board? At which stops do passenger numbers change? How can operators track vehicle occupancy when connectivity is intermittent? In Barcelona, Videtics will demonstrate a practical answer: running Videtics Perception close to the cameras, inside the vehicle, on an Advantech computer powered by NVIDIA Jetson.

01Barcelona, a meeting point

Cities come together.
Mobility in action.

From 3 to 5 November, Smart City Expo World Congress will bring together local authorities, operators and businesses working on urban services at Fira Barcelona Gran Via. Its 2026 theme, “Urban Solutions, Real Impact”, sets the tone: connecting technology with practical applications.

Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress takes place alongside the event. For the transport sector, it is an opportunity to consider solutions against the realities of running a network: service quality, ridership, vehicle constraints and integration with operational tools.

The organiser expects more than 27,000 attendees and 1,100 exhibitors. We will be joining Advantech in Hall 3, stand C161 to show how onboard video analytics can help address these challenges.

02What you will see at the stand

From onboard footage to ridership data.

Our “On-Board AI Analytics” demonstration runs Perception on an onboard computer. It uses the vehicle’s existing camera feeds, without adding dedicated passenger-counting sensors.

01 /

Count passengers

Track boarding and alighting at each door to understand passenger movements.

02 /

Understand occupancy

Estimate how full the vehicle is, from low to high occupancy, by combining counting with density analysis.

03 /

Keep processing on board

Continue processing locally when the network connection is lost, then synchronise the data when connectivity returns.

Our approach

The right computing power, in the right place.
Making footage useful, right inside the vehicle.

03From model to real-world use

Making room for intelligence on board.

A powerful computing environment gives models room to run. A vehicle calls for a different discipline: managing memory, energy and heat while processing images at the pace the application requires.

Our teams have adapted their models for embedded inference, including through pruning and quantisation. Pruning trims parts of the neural network; quantisation reduces the numerical precision of certain calculations. The aim is to reduce the models’ footprint while validating the quality of the results for the intended scenarios.

The demonstrator uses an NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 16 GB module. This brings computing closer to the cameras and allows the installation to be sized for transport use, rather than making every analysis dependent on a remote server.

A module’s power modes do not represent the power consumption of the complete system. This also depends on the computer, its peripherals and the software configuration.

Advantech

Thank you, Advantech.

Our presence in Barcelona builds on our work with Advantech on onboard hardware for transport. Their invitation gives us the opportunity to demonstrate Perception in a practical setting and speak directly with operators and mobility industry professionals.

We thank Advantech Europe’s Transport and Marketing teams for welcoming us, preparing the stand and supporting us throughout. Collaboration between software and hardware teams is an essential part of bringing an embedded project to life.

NVIDIA

Powered by NVIDIA technologies.

The Jetson platform provides the computing foundation for running our models on board. Perception turns images into metrics; the Advantech computer brings that capability into hardware designed for vehicles.

At the stand, Advantech brings together NVIDIA, Macnica, Ouster and Videtics under the theme “Edge AI. Smarter Cities in Motion”. These complementary approaches bring analytics closer to where it is used.
